Privacy

Short version: your scans are processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded unless you use the optional Claude explanation.

Your scans, logs and cars

Scanline runs entirely in your browser. When you paste or open a VCDS Auto-Scan, a log or an OBD2 file, it's read and analysed on your device, and saved in this browser's storage so it's there next time. It isn't uploaded to Scanline or anyone else, and there are no Scanline accounts.

Clearing your browser's site data deletes it. You can download a backup or erase everything any time in Settings.

AI explanations (optional)

AI explanations only work if you add your own Claude API key. When you ask for one, Scanline sends the parsed fault codes, values and check results to Anthropic with your key. VINs and GPS positions are never sent. Anthropic's own privacy policy covers what happens there.

Your key is kept for the current tab only, unless you choose "Remember on this device". It's sent only to Anthropic. Use a key with a low monthly spend limit, and remove it in Settings when you're done.

Usage stats (only if you allow them)

If you say yes on the cookie banner, Scanline uses Microsoft Clarity to see how pages are used (clicks and scrolling), with the contents of your scans, logs and cars masked. If you say no, Clarity isn't loaded. You can change your choice in Settings. See Microsoft's privacy statement.
