VAG 17120Reverse incorrect ratio

17120 is the VW Group 5-digit number VCDS (and older VAG-COM versions) shows for P0736. P0736 means “Reverse incorrect ratio”. It's a generic powertrain code (transmission), so it means the same on every make, including VW, Škoda, Audi, SEAT and Cupra.

How urgent is it?

Can affect safety or cause damage if ignored: get it checked soon.

Which system and module

Scanline files it under Transmission. The first letter, P, means powertrain (engine, transmission, emissions).

Usually stored by the gearbox control unit (VCDS address 02, Transmission); the engine control unit often stores a copy.

What usually causes it

Typical causes are a starting point, not a diagnosis of your car.
